Walgreens is much more tricky then CVS, so many do's and don'ts.
Walgreens Monthy Coupon Book (Easy Saver)
This is a book that comes out monthly that has Walgreens coupon in it, they can be stacked with Manufacturers coupons.
Walgreens Activity Book
I have found that not all Walgreens carries these books. They are 99¢ and can usually be found back by the Pharmacy counter. They contain one page of Walgreens coupons that can be stack with other Walgreens coupons and Manufacturers coupons for extra savings.
Always remember to hand over Manufacturers (Man.) coupons before Walgreens (WAGS) coupons, you will get a better deal and NO beeps at the register.
Example with Man. coupon first:
You have a B1G1 FREE Candy Bar coupon and a WAGS in AD coupon making them 49¢
They ring up 89¢
Buy 2 = $1.78
Man. coupon -$.89 -- price on the register
WAGS coupon -$.80
Final Cost = 9¢ for 2
Example with WAGS coupon first:
Buy 2 = $1.78
WAGS coupon takes 40¢ off each candy bar on the register, making then 49¢ each
Man. coupon then only equals 49¢ becasue when the cashier looks at the price she sees 49¢ and that is what she has to give you
Final Cost = 51¢ for 2
See the difference?
Sometimes you can bypass this by getting to know your cashiers, I NOW can write in the price and they will never check. They just use the price I have wrote on the coupon.
Another Example:
The WAGS coupon takes the amount off the item on the register. So let's say you bought 2 Razors at $2 each
You use 2 -- $1.50/1 Man. coupons
Total is now $1 for both
You use a WAGS coupon for $1 off each razor, the register will deduct $2
Final Cost = $1 Profit
Switching the order of coupons
2 Razors = $4
WAGS coupon makes the razors $1 each
Man. beeps because the price of the razors is less then the coupon value.
So the cashier may not allow you to use this coupon
Not all WAGS coupons take the total off the item on the register but it does trigger something that will make the register beep for the Man. coupon.
I know this post is getting lengthy already but I just want to push my point here, not that you don't believe me but so many people just don't understand why I say you HAVE GOT to do it this way. I did 2 IDENTICAL transactions a few weeks back. First transaction went smooth, no beeps on the register. For the second transaction I reused some walgreens coupons and the cashier scanned them first, the register beeped when he scanned the man. coupons. I asked him to void all the coupons and scan the WAGS coupons last, sure enough, no beeps.
If you want you Walgreens coupons back, just ask, they throw them in the garbage. I ALWAYS get my Activity book coupons back, heck they cost 99¢ a book, I'll save every penny I can.
In AD coupons, you don't have to cut them out, you can just hand the AD to the cashier and she can scan that one coupon but you have to get it scanned to get that sale price.
You can use a 1 Manufactures coupon and multiple WAGS coupon together.
(example: an in AD coupon and a Coupon from the WAGS February Monthly savings book) (another example: a coupon from the WAGS February coupon book and a coupon from the WAGS Activity Book) Basically any combination of WAGS coupons can be stacked together with a man. coupon, just not2 of the same identical coupon.
You must have on item per coupon, Walgreens in AD coupons and WAGS Month coupon book coupons do NOT count towards the total but everything else does including Register Rewards. If you have 10 items, you can only have 10 coupons total. That's why I try to list cheap filler items on the match-ups.
A Register Rewards is a coupon that prints after you pay the cashier that you can use towards your next purchase at Walgreens, it's like cash at WAGS.
You can earn more then one RRs in a transaction as long as it is NOT the same company or the same deal. Example: Buy 1 Aussie Shampoo, Get $2 RRs -- If you buy 2 Aussie Shampoos you will only get a $2 RRs. Always do 2 transactions to get that second reward.
Watch your Register Rewards, THEY DO NOT ROLL
Example: if you buy 4 DayQuil at $20 and Get $10 RRs
You can NOT turn around and use that $10 towards DayQuil again or the RRs will NOT print. Also watch for the company that gave the RRs, like P&G. Sometimes if you use a P&G RRs on another P&G deal the RRs will NOT print.
This is how I handle my RRs to make sure I don't use the wrong RRs, I buy everything I want for the week using RRs from the prior week. Make sure it's not the same deal becasue Walgreens does run monthly RRs. Like the DayQuil and Gillette Razors this month.
Watch Sales, Make sure it is a Mix & Match sale. I learned this the hard way when I was a new couponer. A manager CHEWED me a new one becasue I wanted to return something becasue I didn't get my rewards and I didn't make sure it was a Mix & Match sale first. I had no clue what that was at the time.
Say Neosporin is on sale 2/$8
If the sale does NOT say Mix & Match, make sure you buy 2 IDENTICAL items or you will NOT get the sale price and RRs if included in the deal. If it's not a Mix and match sale you could NOT buy one regular Neosporin and one Pain Relief Neosporin. Even though both are on sale 2/$8.

Thank you! Very helpful information!
I'm new at this and your explanation was very thorough and helpful. Thanks so much.
Is it true I can not use my RR and a coupon for one product. I tried and they said RR are treated like coupons so one can only be use. If I buy a filler product that is less they the RR will that work?
A RRs is just like a coupon you can only use one per item. Say you want to buy a fan for $19.99 with 4 -- $5 RRs (for a total of $20)you will need 3 cheap additional items and NO additional coupons.
4 items
4 coupons
Your total MUST be more then the RRs
or the register will beep and the cashier will hand them back to you.
Question:
I was trying to buy some toothbrushes today at Walgreens. 99 cents on sale.. I bought three and had three $1.00 coupons. The register wouldn't take the third coupon. I even bought gum for the overage in tax? They would only take 2 of the toothbrush coupons. Since I am not that confident in their policy I just said okay. I have several other coupons for these brushes and want to make sure I do it correctly. Do I just need the items for overage? She stated that the coupon was more than the item... so they couldn't use all three? Can you tell me the policy for Walgreens with this situation? THANKS!!!!
Walgreens is the worst of the 3 drug stores when it comes to their own coupon policies. If you call customer service they tell you that the coupon policy is pretty much up to the store manager. Most stores would have taken the coupons and adjusted them down to 99¢. The best thing to do in this situation is ask for a manager and get that stores policy on this.
What is their policy for rainchecks? What if I want to buy some items that are on sale then also have spend $10 get $3 RR.
Can you get a raincheck for the items and the RR?
No rainchecks will be given on RRs.
Hi Chrys, i am wondering if you can walk me through how this scenario would work at the register. say for ex cover girl is B1G1 50%, and i have a B1G1F coupon..how will that ring up? what will i end up paying?
thank you!
Lets' say you buy 2 CoverGirl products at $9.99 each. They will both ring up $9.99 and then when the cashier hits total the second CoverGirl will then become 50% off = $4.99.
Your total is then $14.98.
Because the 50% off is a store sale the cashier should give you the full $9.99 off, making the final cost $4.99 for both items.
Does that help?
it does, thank you~
Chrys, on April 20th a question was asked about using multiple RR and you gave the example of the fan. In your explanation, when you say NO additional coupons, are you saying no WAGS coupons as well, or just manufacturer's?
You can not use ANY additional coupons that deduct money off the total, so that would include WAGs and Manf. coupons. 4 items = 4 coupons it doesn't matter what kind.
I was at Walgreens earlier today and had trouble. It was my first time using suday coupons (p&G) and rrs. I saved money dont get me wrong but it was super confusing. My checkout lady was super nice at least. But anyway after reading this it makes way more sense and i feel more prepared for my next trip! Planning makes a difference!
Take it slow and if you need help just e-mail me, I will do what I can to make it less confusing for you. Wags is the toughest of the 3 drug stores! :o)
